Upon project completion, PTG’s cost-effective combined heat and power (CHP) technology will move Golden Road towards complete energy independence. The PTG system simultaneously generates the facility’s electricity while providing virtually all their hot water needs. The system will pay for itself in less than three years.

PTG Water & Energy (PTG), innovator of onsite power generation technology optimized for craft breweries, has been selected by Golden Road Brewing to provide onsite power and hot water at its craft beer production facility in Los Angeles, California. By integrating PTG’s system into its production process, Golden Road will generate the bulk of its electric power needs onsite and will use the thermal energy that is co-generated from the CHP process to produce the lion’s share of its hot water for free. Golden Road calculates that the PTG system will pay for itself in less than three years by reducing its facility’s energy costs by more than 50%, while efficiently producing thousands of gallons of hot water without consuming additional energy resources.
PTG’s modular and scalable combined heat and power technology offers dependable onsite electric energy production. Looking ahead, another attractive benefit is the elimination of future boiler purchases, which will preserve valuable capital.
“Golden Road selected the PTG system because it pays for itself in less than three years, and is custom engineered for our brewery’s particular needs” said Jon Lerdsuwanrut, Golden Road’s Director of Engineering. “The PTG team provided several creative ideas for customization, and structured the project as a full service, turnkey system. We are excited to get the system installed so that we can start cutting our electrical bills by more than one-half.”
“PTG is very pleased to work with Golden Road’s team of innovators helping them apply our breakthrough technology to reduce their energy consumption and costs, while supporting their growth” said Greg Ryan, CEO and co-founder of PTG. “Our systems have been custom-engineered for the unique needs of craft brewers such as Golden Road. We are also excited about having the opportunity to assist Golden Road in the design of their new Anaheim facility, supporting their goals for a low cost, efficient plant.”
Recently, news broke announcing that Anheuser Busch had acquired Golden Road Brewing. Mr. Ryan commented that “with the signing and announcement of our agreement, Golden Road has confirmed that our project will proceed as scheduled for commissioning in early 2016. We look forward to the opportunity to see how PTG’s solutions can also benefit other craft brewers within the Anheuser Busch family.”
PTG Water & Energy: the only modular and scalable CHP system optimized for craft breweries
The craft brewing industry is experiencing tremendous growth, led by craft brewers such as Golden Road. 2014 data on U.S. craft brewing growth released by the Brewers Association, a trade association that represents small and independent American craft brewers, showed continued rapid growth. Craft brewers increased volumes more than 17 percent in 2014, representing a total of 21.8 million barrels, and a 22 percent increase in retail dollar value. Combined craft brewing volumes represent an 11.8 percent market share in the U.S.
Controlling energy and water costs while creating the highest-quality beer is crucial for the nation’s craft brewers. PTG’s optimized systems can reduce electricity and heating costs in breweries by more than 50 percent. The systems also offer the additional advantage of treating wastewater and reducing sewer charges, which enables water to be recycled to reduce freshwater costs. PTG’s wastewater treatment systems are sustainable and non-toxic, and require no chemicals. All of PTG’s systems are easy to integrate into existing brewing processes.
