New PTG XM-5 system enables fast-track field tests of PTG’s renewable-energy water reuse and recycling technology. Businesses and municipalities can now quickly assess the cost benefits for their applications.
Pasteurization Technology Group (PTG), innovator of the only wastewater disinfection process that creates renewable energy, has expanded its product line with the addition of a mobile processing plant designed to accelerate customer field tests and project viability analysis. The PTG XM-5 is a scaled-down version of the company’s flagship product, the PTG X-500. The new XM-5 can disinfect up to 14,000 gallons of wastewater per day, sufficient for target customers in the wastewater treatment, food, beverage, agriculture, and oil and gas industries. This will allow customers to conduct accurate cost-benefit analyses of the technology’s capabilities prior to proceeding with larger implementations.
“We’re experiencing strong commercial interest for our renewable-energy wastewater disinfection system because businesses are facing rising water, sewer and electrical costs associated with managing their wastewater output. We have a solution that handles their disinfection needs while also offsetting their power and water bills,” said Greg Ryan, co-founder and CEO of Pasteurization Technology Group. “The new XM-5 mobile system enables these businesses to determine how a PTG system will fit with their specific application as well as identifying multiple sources of cost savings.”
PTG’s patented technology uniquely combines wastewater disinfection with renewable energy generation — solving two problems for the price of one. The XM-5 is a self-contained, mobile system that can be quickly deployed and is generally up and running within 24 hours of delivery, providing customers and the engineering firms that work with them a fast and accurate method for validating water re-use potential. Just like the PTG X-500, the XM-5 disinfects water that meets the specifications of California Title 22 regulations (the toughest standard in the world) for water reuse. As the X-500 handles up to 500,000 gallons per day, the XM-5 is a welcome addition to the PTG product portfolio for customers with lower volume requirements.

Meet PTG at the upcoming Cleantech Forum in San Francisco Greg Ryan is speaking at the Tenth Annual Cleantech Forum, the annual gathering of the global clean technology innovation community that takes place March 26-28, 2012, in San Francisco. PTG was selected from a large pool of companies to present in the Cleantech Forum Entrepreneur Showcase, which features 20 of the cleantech industry’s most exciting startups, and invites them to pitch their investment opportunity to a panel of experts. PTG’s process delivers re-usable water and renewable energy PTG is the first and only company in the world to combine wastewater disinfection with renewable-energy generation. PTG’s patented technology can use the digester gas (often referred to as biogas, a natural by-product of wastewater treatment) as fuel to drive a turbine that generates renewable electricity. The hot exhaust air from the turbine (energy that is typically wasted) is then passed through a series of heat exchangers that increase the temperature of the wastewater to a level that disinfects the wastewater stream. PTG’s technology is significantly more cost-effective and more energy-efficient than other methods. And, unlike other wastewater disinfection approaches, PTG’s systems do not require toxic chemicals such as chlorine or costly electrical power and expensive lamps.
About Pasteurization Technology Group Located in San Leandro, California, Pasteurization Technology Group is a venture-capital backed company that is revolutionizing the disinfection of wastewater. PTG’s systems utilize its patented “two-for-one” technology that combines wastewater disinfection with the generation of renewable energy. PTG’s process is one of only a handful of technologies to pass the stringent standards of Title 22 in the state of California for the disinfection of water for reuse. By channeling the typically wasted exhaust heat from a turbine to disinfect wastewater, PTG’s process is the most energy-efficient and lowest-cost solution on the market. PTG won the 2011 BlueTech® Go-To-Market Strategy award and the Popular Science 2011 Best of What’s New award, and is featured on the 2012 Cleantech Forum Entrepreneur Showcase.
